Use Menus and Toolbars
When you start ebs: central, it displays the main screen.
The top of the main screen contains the following:
The ebs button is displayed in the top left-hand corner of ebs: central.
Click the ebs button to display the following options:
- Save - saves data in the current application module
- Clear Settings - resets local user settings back to the default settings
- Recent Activity - displays recent searches carried out
- Options - relates to various settings for some modules in ebs: central
- Config - displays the Config Inspector
- About - displays information about the versions of ebs: central modules in use
- Exit - closes ebs: central
The Quick Access Toolbar sits above the ribbon, on the right-hand side of the ebs button. This toolbar can be personalised to contain the commands that you use frequently. Click the downwards arrow to display the Customise Quick Access Toolbar menu.
The following options are available:
- Show Quick Access Toolbar Below/Above the Ribbon - changes the display position of the toolbar to be above or below the ribbon (the default position is above the ribbon)
- Minimize/Maximise the Ribbon - expands or contracts the ribbon (in its contracted state it will show only the ribbon tabs, which are temporarily expanded by clicking on them)
Alternatively, you can add a frequently-used ribbon command to the Quick Access Toolbar by right-clicking on the command, and then selecting the Add to Quick Access Toolbar option from the shortcut menu that is displayed.
The ribbon is designed to help you to quickly find the commands needed to complete a task.
Ribbon commands are organised in groups, shown as tabs. Each tab in ebs: central relates to a specific group of modules. The Start tab is used to open the functional modules that the user account gives access to (in Roles). The System tab is displayed alongside the Start ribbon. This is to separate the general configuration and administration modules from the other modules on the Start ribbon.
Click the System tab to display the System ribbon which contains the Admin, System Configuration, Scheduler and Workflow ribbon groups.
The Reporting ribbon tab is also displayed if the relevant licences are held, which displays the Reporting ribbon when selected.
This incorporates the following ribbon groups and includes reports published for different contexts in Data Miner:
- Data Miner - EBS4DataMiner licence required
- Reporting - EBS4Reports licence required
- Reports - EBS4ClientReports licence required
To use a command on the current ribbon tab, click on that command with the mouse. All commands on the ribbon also have an associated access key, allowing them to be accessed directly from the keyboard.
To use the access keys or to see the keyboard shortcuts available, move the cursor over the appropriate toolbar button. You will then see small labels appear against the toolbar button. An example of this is shown in the following graphic:
To view the KeyTips via the keyboard, press the Alt key followed by the letter for the required area. For example: pressing Alt+S (Start ribbon commands) will display the keyboard commands shown below.
Most commands on the ribbon have descriptive text, and a button. When the size of the application window is reduced, the commands still display in their groups, but as the size reduces each group in turn will be made smaller by dropping the text labels and retaining only the buttons. Hint text on the buttons will still show the associated descriptions when the cursor is moved over a button. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to quickly perform tasks in ebs: central, for example: pressing Alt+L will display the available options in drop-down lists.
