Microsoft Entra External ID Integration

Entra External ID is a new Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) solution built on the same technology as Entra ID. It allows you to authenticate users outside your institution, such as applicants, using a separate service from your institution's directory.

Entra External ID is an optional authentication method that is not enabled by default and does not replace any existing authentication methods. It supports various forms of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and can also integrate with non-local identity providers, such as Google, Facebook, and Apple, provided an email address is available. This gives institutions more options for authenticating external users.

With the launch of Entra External ID, Azure AD B2C is now considered Microsoft's legacy solution for Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM). For more information on the differences between Entra External ID and Azure AD B2C, refer to the Microsoft Entra External ID frequently asked questions.
