Manage Child Courses
The Enrolments module automatically adds any mandatory child courses when a parent course record is saved. Parent courses are highlighted in grey in the Enrolments grid, with any children indented underneath.
Providing that a course has been set up with child courses attached, you can manually attach children using the Manage Children window.
To manage child courses, select the required enrolment in the Enrolments grid, and then click the Manage Children button on the Enrolment ribbon.
The Manage Children window is displayed.
The following graphic shows the unattached children for the parent course. There are four already attached as children for the current enrolment.
When a child of a course or unit standard is attached as an enrolment, this automatically creates an academic history record for the learner. This record will hold the outcome of the course or unit standard when the learner has progressed through and will be used in the awards calculations.
The buttons on the Manage Children window are described in the following table.

You can use the Manage Children window to:

The Manage Children window enables you to add electives to the learner’s enrolments.
Click the Add Elective button to search for any available course or qualification that is offered by the institution, even if it is not linked to the learner’s current enrolment.
Click the Add Elective Enrolment button to search for any course or qualification that is linked to the learner’s current enrolment, usually via a parent/child link.
These buttons are only available if you have selected the Is the Enrolment Electives functionality enabled? institution setting.
If you have a role that allows the creation or editing of enrolments, you can create child enrolments for any course in the existing curriculum when working in the context of a parent course, so that elective courses can be supported.
When attaching the child, an enrolment (PEOPLE_UNIT) record is created together with a PEOPLE_UNIT_LINKS record linking the new enrolment to the parent.
You can also disconnect elective children from their parent enrolment when working in the context of a parent course. This removes the association between the two enrolments.
When unlinking an elective, the link (the PEOPLE_UNIT_LINKS record) is deleted, but the enrolment (the PEOPLE_UNIT record) is retained, with the enrolment now as stand-alone. When unlinked, the elective enrolment will be completely removed from the parent-child links page. To re-attach it you must find it again using the search for un-linked existing enrolments for the learner.

You can use the Attach Non Starter button on the Manage Children window to enrol a learner onto a course with a non-starter status.
Select an unattached child enrolment, and then click the Attach Non Starter button. The child enrolment will then display in the Attached section.
The non-starter enrolment does not:
- Take up a place on the UIO
- Create academic records or assessments for that UIO
- Generate fees for that UIO
The progress code of the enrolment defaults to the code specified by the Default Non-Starter Progress Code institution setting on the Enrolments screen. The progress codes available for selection are those codes with a progress_type of ‘N’ (Non- Starter) and student_status of ‘R’ (Registration/Enrolment).
