Screen and Page Functionality
From the Screen/Page group of the System Configuration Commands ribbon, you can:
When working on page edits, it is useful to be able to check your progress periodically by viewing the page in your browser. You can do this by viewing your pages in tryout mode.
To tryout a page, select the screen you want to view from the Screens section, and then click the Tryout Page button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
Your default browser will open to the login screen for ebs: ontrack Hub or ebs: ontrack Learner Hub.
Note: If you are not already logged into ebs: ontrack Hub or ebs: ontrack Learner Hub, you will be required to log in before viewing the page in tryout mode. You can navigate the pages in tryout mode, and will view pages with a status of in testing instead of the live published versions as appropriate (depending on your primary roles).
You can go back to ontrack Designer, make further changes, click Save, and then refresh your browser to immediately see the effect of your saved changes.
When you have made the required changes to a page, you will need to publish it. This makes the screen live to users affected by the changes made to the screen.
To publish a page:
-
Select the screen you want to publish from the Screens section, and then click the Publish Screen button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Publish Screen window is displayed.
-
Enter a comment in the Check in comment field.
Note: This should be relevant to the changes you have made (for example: Set Front of House user role to AccessDenied).
-
Click Yes to publish the changes to the live system.
The page is published.
The Abandon Page Edits button enables you to abandon changes made to a specified page.
To abandon page edits:

Select the page that you want to revert back to the last published version from the Pages section, and then click the Abandon Page Edits button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Abandon Page message is displayed.
-
Click Yes.
The changes to the selected page are abandoned.
Note: If you have only saved one page for the screen and then abandoned the page edits, the published versions of all pages for the screen will be reloaded together with the live primary roles, and your username will no longer display next to the screen. If you have saved more than one page for the screen and you abandon page edits for a specific page, the primary roles displayed will still be the primary roles in testing mode and the screen will still be in testing mode.
The Abandon Screen Edits button enables you to abandon changes made to a screen.
To abandon screen edits:
-
Select the screen that you want to revert back to the last published version from the Screens section, and then click the Abandon Screen Edits button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Abandon Page message is displayed.

Note: If any pages have not yet been published, they will be removed from the system. All primary roles will be refreshed to their live versions.
The Export Screen and Export Page buttons enable you to export a screen or page from the current database so you can import it into another. This is beneficial for when you are testing screen/page changes on your test database in preparation for publishing it on your live system.
To export a screen or page:
-
Select the screen that you want to export from the Screens section, and then click the Export Screen or Export Page button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Select Destination for the Output File window is displayed.
- Navigate to the required location to store the .uafx file and rename it if required,
-
Click Save.
The .uafx file is saved to the selected file location.
The Import button enables you to import a screen or page created in another database (for example: your test database) and import it into your live system.
Note: The Page Name and Description fields must be unique. An error message is displayed if you attempt to import a screen or page that contains a name and/or description that has already been used.
To import a screen:
-
Click the Import button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Import Screen window is displayed, with a warning if any pages are currently unsaved or in testing.
Note: This does not prevent the import from being carried out.
-
Click the Browse button in the File and Path field.
The Select File to Import window is displayed.
- Search for and select the .uafx file that you have exported from another database, and then click the Open button.
-
Optional, select the Import Page as copy of original check box to not clone the page and associated data links on import.
Note: This option is not available for files containing multiple pages.
-
Optional, select the Do not check release version check box to specify whether to select imports of pages from different versions.
-
Click the Import button on the Imports Screen window.
The grid will update, displaying the successful import records.
Note: Any primary roles assigned to a page are not maintained during the export and import process. A page that is imported will have no primary roles assigned. Primary roles will therefore need to be assigned to the page after it has been imported into the target database.
If the page name and/or description is duplicated an error message is displayed.
Note: If you select to import a page that relies on a custom column data type that is not available on the target system, a warning is displayed when the file is selected for import which confirms the unknown column type will be removed on import (that is: the custom drop-downs are removed and replaced with text boxes).
The Delete Page button enables you to delete a non-base page in ontrack Designer.
Note: If the page already has links configured to it from other pages, you will not be able to delete the page and ontrack Designer will prompt you with a list of other pages with links to the page. You must remove these links from these pages before deleting the page.
To delete a page:
-
Select the page you want to delete, and then click the Delete Page button on the System Configuration Commands ribbon.
The Delete Page message is displayed.
-
Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
The selected page is deleted.
Note: If this is the last page on a screen, the screen will be deleted. If this is the last page for a context, the context will be deleted.
